UPDATED DECEMBER 17, 2024 BRING-A-TRALIER
This 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce is said to have been acquired by the current owner approximately ten years ago from its second owner in New Jersey. Subsequent refurbishment work performed by the seller’s shop, E-N-I Motorsports of Brookfield, Connecticut, involved repainting the body in silver, fitting a replacement black convertible top, and re-trimming the seats in black leather. The twin-cam inline-four was modified to displace 1.4-liters as part of an engine rebuild, while the five-speed manual gearbox was resealed. An overhaul of the finned aluminum drum brakes was carried out, and an electronic distributor was installed along with replacement exhaust components. The car rides on 15″ alloy wheels and is further equipped with Koni shocks, aftermarket springs, and dual Weber carburetors. Service completed in anticipation of the sale is said to have included re-coring the radiator, installing a copper head gasket, and replacing the thermostat, ignition wires, and spark plugs. This tipo 750F is now offered in Connecticut with a transferable New York State registration document in the owner’s name that lists the vehicle as a 1959 model year.
The Giulietta platform debuted in Sprint coupe form in 1954 and was joined in 1955 by the Berlina sedan, followed in mid-1955 by the Pinin Farina–styled spider. This example is said to have been stripped to bare metal prior to a repaint in silver completed as part of the aforementioned refurbishment commissioned under current ownership. A number of trim pieces were also refinished at that time, and a replacement black convertible top was fitted in 2022. Exterior details include wraparound bumpers, a left-side mirror, and a single polished exhaust outlet. The seller notes touch-up paint on the left-rear quarter panel along with bubbling in the paint along the decklid.
Silver-finished 15″ ventilated alloy wheels wear bright hubcaps and are mounted with 155-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, as is a steel spare wheel secured on the rear shelf. Koni shocks and aftermarket springs have been installed at each corner, and the finned aluminum drum brakes are noted to have been overhauled as part of the refurbishment.
The cabin was refreshed under current ownership and houses a pair of low-back bucket seats trimmed in black leather. Matching upholstery extends to the custom-fabricated wood door panels. A rearview mirror is mounted atop the black crinkle-finished dashboard, and Alfa Romeo–branded black rubber floor linings cover the replacement black carpets. Lap belts, a cabin heater, and a Pininfarina radio blanking plate are further appointments.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a metal horn ring along with a gold-finished Giulietta Special horn button. The Veglia instruments were overhauled in the mid-2010s and inlcude an 8k-rpm tachometer with an inset oil-pressure readout flanked by a 140-mph speedometer and a combination gauge monitoring oil temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 19k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The twin-cam inline-four was rebuilt and modified to displace 1.4L in the mid-2010s by E-N-I Motorsports, who notes that the engine was balanced and blueprinted. An electronic distributor has been installed, and induction is via dual Weber 40DCO3 carburetors. Service completed in preparation for the sale is said to have involved re-coring the radiator, installing a copper head gasket, and replacing the thermostat, ignition wires, and spark plugs. The engine oil and coolant were also changed at that time.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission that was resealed during the refurbishment, per the seller. Further work performed at that time is noted to have involved replacing the clutch assembly along with overhauls of the driveshaft and rear axle. The exhaust headers have been ceramic coated, and replacement exhaust components have been installed.
The car does not have a title, as it is located in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being offered on its transferable New York State registration.
