This 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale is one of a claimed 1,399 examples produced between 1963 and 1965 and is noted to have been initially delivered in Italy. The car was acquired by the seller out of Germany in the mid-1980s and was later brought to the US in the early 2000s. Finished in red over tan leather upholstery, it is powered by a 1.6L twin-cam inline-four with dual Weber carburetors that is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It rides on 15″ steel wheels and is further equipped with front disc brakes, a louvered alloy hood, a plexiglass wind deflector, fender-mounted Talbot Berlin mirrors, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and woodgrain interior trim. This Tipo 101.21 is now offered with a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The Sprint Speciale featured styling by Bertone’s Franco Scaglione, who drew inspiration from his earlier Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica prototype designs. A successor to the Tipo 101.20 Giulietta SS, the Tipo 101.21 Giulia SS debuted at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show with similar styling and an increased displacement of 1.6 liters. This example is noted to have been stripped and fitted with a replacement left door, sills, and rocker panels prior to a repaint in its current red finish in the mid-1990s. Exterior details include a plexiglass wind deflector, a louvered hood, fender-mounted Talbot Berlin mirrors, push-button doors, chrome bumpers, and Giulia SS badging. The grille lacks side strakes, and the seller notes flaws on a number of trim pieces.

Silver-finished 15″ wheels wear Alfa Romeo–branded hubcaps and are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A spare with an older 155-series tire is stored in the trunk compartment. The Giulia SS came fitted with front disc and finned rear drum brakes from the factory. The brake lights remain illuminated, per the seller.

The reupholstered cabin houses low-back front bucket seats trimmed in tan leather that extends to the door panels and rear parcel shelf. The Giulia SS featured a revised dashboard over the Giulietta SS with the addition of a lockable glovebox and leather upholstery along the lower portion of the dash. The dash wears woodgrain trim and houses a clock, while a folding cupholder has been installed aft of the shifter.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel features an Alfa Romeo horn button and fronts Veglia instrumentation consisting of an 8k-rpm tachometer with an inset oil pressure readout as well as a 220-km/h speedometer and a combination gauge. A Jaquet stopwatch has been mounted ahead of the instruments. The five-digit odometer shows 69k kilometers (~43k miles), approximately 45k of which have been added under current ownership.

The Giulia SS featured a 1,570cc twin-cam inline-four outfitted with dual Weber 40 DCOE2 carburetors that was carried over from the Giulia Sprint Veloce. The engine in this example was reportedly overhauled in the late 1990s and fitted with replacement Weber carburetors along with an electric cooling fan. The seller notes that the ignition system was serviced approximately two years ago.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement five-speed manual transmission.

The Arizona titled was signed and notarized in April 2024.
