In 1957 came the model now recognised as the ultimate Giulietta, the Sprint Speciale, first of the 101-Series cars. Built on a slightly shorter wheelbase than the standard Sprint, and again the work of Bertone, the gorgeously curvaceous 'SS' came with 100bhp on tap, a five-speed gearbox, and a top speed of 200km/h (125mph). Previously registered in the province of Treviso, Italy, this beautiful Sprint Speciale was registered in the province of Venice from late July 1966. An old-style Italian libretto lists two owners from 1966 to 1969. The Alfa had already been registered in the Netherlands from 1978 when registered to the vendor in 1991. Subsequently the car was comprehensively restored and the colour changed from grey to red, while at some point the original engine was replaced with a 1,600cc unit from a Giulia, providing that desirable extra torque and power. A Dutch expert's report from 2017 describes the car as 'very beautiful and in outstanding condition, very well kept'.
