This 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale is one of approximately 1,366 examples produced and was completed on May 12, 1961. It was delivered new to Casablanca, Morocco, and was in Canada by 1978. The car remained under the care of the founder of the Sprint Speciale Registry from 1978 until the seller’s 2025 purchase, and it was refurbished during that 47-year span with work including a repaint in its factory shade of Rosso Alfa, a rebuild of the replacement 1,290cc inline-four, and rebuilds of the dual Weber carburetors and four-wheel drum brakes. The car features gray and red vinyl upholstery, a five-speed manual transmission, 15″ steel Fergat wheels, an electric fuel pump, a louvered hood, a plexiglass wind deflector, and push-button doors. This Giulietta Sprint Speciale won the Tom Thomson Art Gallery Timeless Design Award at the 2025 Cobble Beach Concours d’Elegance and is now offered in Canada at no reserve with an Alfa Romeo Automobilismo Storico Centro Documentazione letter, the owner’s manual, historical photos, two keys, a custom-fit car cover, a spare tire and jack, a repair manual, a spare parts catalog, Cobble Beach Concours plaques and memorabilia, and Ontario registration in the seller’s name that lists the car as a 1962 model.
The Sprint Speciale featured styling by Bertone’s Franco Scaglione, who drew inspiration from his earlier Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica prototype designs. This example left the factory finished in Rosso Alfa and was stripped and repainted during the 1978-2025 refurbishment. Bodywork was performed prior to the repaint. Styling includes a louvered hood, a plexiglass wind deflector, a Kamm-style truncated tail, push-button doors, pop-out rear quarter windows, and chrome bumpers. There is bubbling paint on the hood, swirl marks and chips in the paint, pitting on the chrome, a chip in the driver’s door glass, peeling sealant on the rear window, and a chip and dent on the top of the right quarter panel.
The 15″ steel Fergat wheels wear polished Alfa Romeo-branded hubcaps and are mounted with Pirelli tires measuring 155HR15. Braking is handled by drums at each corner that were reportedly rebuilt in May 2025. The brakes were adjusted and the front shoes were replaced in September 2025, along with the wheel cylinders and brake fluid. The steering and suspension were overhauled during the refurbishment. The seller notes that the factory spare wheel with a tire and jack will accompany the car.
The low-back front bucket seats are upholstered in gray and red vinyl, and interior equipment includes a painted metal dashboard, a rear parcel shelf, and a cabin heater. The headliner is stained, and some of the trim is missing from the passenger-side A-pillar.
The three-spoke Nardi steering wheel features an Alfa Romeo horn button and fronts Veglia instrumentation consisting of a central 8k-rpm tachometer with an inset oil pressure readout, a 220-km/h speedometer, and a combination gauge for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 96k kilometers (~60k miles), approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership.
The car is equipped with a replacement 1,290cc inline-four that was reportedly rebuilt in January 2024 with fresh gaskets and bearings, a machined cylinder head, and a valve adjustment. The dual Weber carburetors were also rebuilt at that time and were later cleaned and adjusted in July 2025, at which time the fuel tank was flushed. An electric fuel pump has been added and is activated by a toggle switch to the left of the ignition key. The spark plugs were replaced in August 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission that was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment.
The Certificato di Origine from Alfa Romeo Classiche lists the production date, original market, and factory color.
The vehicle is being sold on its Ontario registration, which serves as the ownership document in Canada.
