Description: 1963 ALFA ROMEO GIULIA SPRINT SPECIALE

The first Alfa Giulietta was introduced in 1957 at the Turin Motor show. A press introduction was staged on the Monza race track in 1959. The first 100 homologation cars featured steel bodies with alloy trunk hood and doors. Styling inspiration for the Guilietta came from the beautifully styled and aerodynamically designed BAT serties of cars produced by Bertone. With a drag coefficient of 0.28 and a 1290 cc twin cam engine making 100 HP these cars were ready to compete with the Porsche 356. In 1963 Alfa introduced the Giulia version of this model, featuring a 800 cc engine with twin Weber carburetors. This new engine made 112 bhp and with a 5 speed transmission allowed a top speed of 113 mph and a “0 to 60” time of 10.9 seconds, comparable to the Lotus Elite and Porsche 356B of the same vintage. Consequently this model became visible at popular competitive events and did well in those circles. The car is currently eligible for certain vintage events, which makes it highly desirable.

According to factory records this car AR 380578 was completed on November 21, 1963 and shipped to Alfa Romeo in Newark, NJ on November 23, 1964. Engine series was AR 00121 and body color was red. No other details are available.

The car is known to have ended up in California in the late eighties having passed through two known owners. In the late eighties the car was put through a complete restoration including engine and gearbox. The car was then returned to the East coast where it resided until 2014. At this point the car was consigned to Automotive Restorations in Stratford, CT.

In early 2015 the interior of the car was completely stripped out in preparation for a new interior. The underside of the body was inspected and some small areas of the floor were strengthened and the entire underside was undercoated. Seat frames were stripped, media blasted and refinished. Bumpers and grille were removed to allow detailed metal refinishing. Interior floors were coated, installed new glass seals, reinstalled dashboard and checked all electrical harness connections. Re-cover seats in leather, all new door panels, new carpet, headliner and dash rail. Trunk re-trimmed. Entire car wet sanded and polished. Engine oil analysis was satisfactory, engine tuned and oil changed.

With $40K just invested in this restoration and only 49,800 miles believed to be the true mileage from new this car should offer the new owner spirited performance on the track or highway and eligibility to qualify in selected vintage competition events. Price $165K
